I grew up playing soccer, baseball, basketball, bowling, and golf. I was the athletic chubby kid who was just waiting for that growth spurt to " fill out" my weight. The first time I stepped into a weight room was during my freshman year of high school for football conditioning. They loaded up 135lbs on the bench press, having never touched a barbell previously, and expected me to "knock out" some reps. I unracked the bar with all my strength as my little arms shook. As expected, the bar lowered and rested on my chest until the spotter (one of the linemen) picked the bar up with one hand. I decided weights and football were not for me. I didn't get back into the weight room until my sophomore year of college when my friend and I had a 90-minute break between classes. We went to the gym and watched what other people were doing and copied them. P90X came out and I did that for a while. I found CrossFit when I moved to Charlotte in 2012 and have loved it ever since.

Being able to help others move better and become more capable humans is what keeps me motivated as a coach. Adding 10lbs to your Deadlift is a great accomplishment, but hearing how CrossFit has made their lives outside the gym more enjoyable is the most rewarding part of coaching. If you have a nagging ache you want to get rid of or want a different variation on a movement, I might have something I can suggest and if not, you can bet I'll be on the look for one if you ask me.
